Component Specification & Details

1. Genuine Tri-Y Manifolds (Headers)

These are authentic Mercedes-Benz cast-iron “Tri-Y” headers, recently refinished in a high-temp Silver Ceramic Coating. The Tri-Y design (two cylinders merging into one, twice per side) optimizes exhaust gas scavenging, significantly reducing backpressure compared to US-spec manifolds.

2. Rear Section: AMG Sebring Muffler

The system culminates in a legendary Sebring-manufactured AMG Muffler.

  • Design: Twin polished stainless-steel tips with the engraved pre-merger AMG script.

  • Sound Profile: Provides a deep, authoritative V8 rumble at idle that transforms into a crisp, metallic “bark” under heavy acceleration.

  • Condition: Excellent structural condition with original AMG stampings present.


Why This Lot is Rare

  • The “Full Kit”: This is not just the headers; it includes the downpipes, the X-pipe (which replaces the restrictive lateral resonators), and the rear muffler.

     

  • Ceramic Heat Management: The ceramic coating provides a durable, corrosion-resistant finish that reduces engine bay temperatures—critical for preserving the 40-year-old plastics and wires in a W126.

  • High-Output ECE Spec: Originally removed from a Japanese-market 560SEL (Japanese cars often featured the high-compression European engine), this system is the key to unlocking the full 300hp potential of the M117.

     


Installation Notes

Wheelbase Compatibility: This system was removed from an SEL (V126) Sedan. While the headers and downpipes are identical for the SEC (C126) Coupe, the mid-section piping on the SEL is slightly longer. SEC owners will need to shorten the mid-pipes to accommodate the 10cm shorter wheelbase.

 

Hardware Included: The seller (M113Kaiser) has included new copper mounting nuts and flange seals to ensure a leak-free installation.
