BMW M3 G80 G81 M4 G82 CERAMIC Brake Ceramic Brakes Calipers Blocks
Track-Ready Performance | Gold 6-Piston Calipers | 13.5kg Weight Saving
The M Carbon Ceramic Brake (CCB) system for the G8x platform is the highest-tier braking hardware BMW offers. Recognizable by its signature Matte Gold calipers, this setup is designed for extreme thermal resistance and a massive reduction in unsprung mass. Key Performance Benefits
-
Massive Weight Reduction: The CCB system saves approximately 13.5 kg (30 lbs) compared to the standard M Compound (steel) brakes. This significantly improves steering precision, suspension response, and acceleration.
-
Fade Resistance: While steel brakes can “soften” under repeated heavy track use, carbon ceramics can withstand temperatures exceeding 800°C without losing stopping power.
-
Zero Brake Dust: The ceramic pad/rotor interface produces virtually no visible dust, keeping wheels like the 826M or 1000M pristine for longer.
-
Service Life: Under normal street driving, CCB rotors can last the lifetime of the vehicle (100,000+ miles). On track, however, they must be monitored via weight or visual wear indicators.
Retrofit & Technical Intelligence
 Critical Installation Notes:
Wheel Clearance: This system requires a minimum of 19″ front wheels. Most OEM 18″ wheels found on base models will not clear the massive 400mm front calipers.
Brake Booster: A full retrofit must include the CCB-specific brake booster. The hydraulic pressure required for ceramics differs from steel; using the standard booster will result in a wooden, unresponsive pedal feel.
Coding: The vehicle’s ECU must be coded to “VO: 2NK” (M Carbon Ceramic Brake) to recalibrate the ABS, DSC (Stability Control), and Brake-by-Wire curves.
Warning: Carbon ceramic discs are extremely brittle. When changing wheels, always use the alignment pins to prevent the wheel rim from chipping the edge of the rotor.
