PORSCHE GT3 991 SPEEDOMETER EU SWITCH INSTRUMENT PANEL

For the Porsche 911 GT3 (991.1 and 991.2), switching to an EU-spec instrument cluster or panel is a common requirement for car imports/exports between North America and Europe. In 2026, you have three primary ways to handle this “EU Switch,” ranging from simple menu toggles to full hardware replacements.

1. The “Digital” Switch (Free & Instant)

Before buying hardware, remember that the 991 generation features a high-resolution digital display on the far right of the cluster.

  • The Process: Go to Settings > Units on the Multi-Function Display (MFD) using the steering wheel scroll wheel or the lower-right stalk.

  • Result: This will instantly change the digital speedometer, odometer, temperature (F to C), and tire pressure (PSI to Bar) to metric units.

  • The Limitation: This does not change the physical analog speedometer needle/dial, which will still show MPH if it’s a US-spec car.

2. The “EU Dial” Face Swap (Cost-Effective)

If you want the analog speedometer to show km/h (EU standard) without replacing the entire expensive computer unit, you can perform a “gauge face swap.”

  • The Hardware: You replace the physical printed dial for the speedometer.

  • Metric Range: An EU GT3 dial typically scales to 330 km/h or 350 km/h.

  • Key Part Numbers/Brands: Brands like Lockwood or Gauge Faces produce OEM-quality overlays.

  • The “Brake” Icon: Note that US cars use the word “BRAKE” while EU cars use the “( ! )” symbol. A true EU conversion often includes replacing the Tachometer face to get that symbol correct.

3. Full EU Instrument Cluster Replacement

For a “factory perfect” conversion (required for certain strict EU registrations), you must replace the entire unit.

  • GT3 Specifics: The GT3 cluster is unique; it features a 9,000 RPM or 10,000 RPM redline and a specific center-mounted analog tachometer.

  • EU Part Number (991.2 GT3): 991-641-980-XX (Suffix varies by stitching/color).

  • Programming Requirement: Porsche PIWIS III (Diagnostic software) is required to code the new cluster to your VIN. Without this, the car will display “Component Protection” or a “VIN Mismatch” error.
