For the Porsche Cayenne Turbo (955/957 generation, 2003–2010), the instrument cluster is one of the most distinctive features of the interior, but it is also a well-known point of failure.

In 2026, many owners are opting for specialized LED screen repairs rather than expensive unit replacements, as the “Turbo” screen is unique compared to the base and S models.

1. 955 vs. 957 Turbo Cluster Differences

The 955 (2003–2006) and 957 (2008–2010) clusters are physically similar but have different underlying hardware and software.

  • The Turbo “Full Color” Display: Unlike the base Cayenne and Cayenne S—which use a monochrome Amber/Red center display—the Turbo and Turbo S models feature a high-resolution Full-Color TFT screen.

  • Speedometer Scale:

    • 955 Turbo: Typically scales to 180 mph (or 300 km/h).

    • 957 Turbo S: Features the updated white-on-black graphics and often the Turbo S logo on the dial face.

  • Gauges: Both generations feature 6 analog dials: Speedometer, Tachometer, Oil Temperature, Coolant Temperature, Fuel Level, and Turbo Boost Pressure (standard on Turbo models).

2. Common Failure: The Center Screen

The most frequent issue is the failure of the center LCD screen.

  • Symptoms: Fading when the cabin gets hot, missing pixel lines (dead pixels), or a complete blackout.

  • The “Turbo” Problem: Replacement screens for the Turbo (Color TFT) are significantly more expensive and harder to find than the amber monochrome screens used in the Cayenne S.

  • 2026 Repair Cost:

    • Turbo Color LCD Part: $350 – $500 USD.

    • Professional Repair Service: $600 – $800 USD (including labor and testing).

3. The “RB4 vs. RB8” Gateway Issue

If you are buying a used cluster for a swap, you must identify the “Gateway” logic:

  • RB4 Clusters (Early 955): The vehicle’s “Gateway” (the brain that lets different car computers talk to each other) is built into the cluster.

  • RB8 Clusters (Later 955/957): The Gateway is a separate box located under the passenger-side dashboard.

  • Compatibility: If you install an RB8 cluster into an RB4 car, the car will not start (Immobilizer active) and many electronics (windows, lights) will fail to respond.
