Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Hood is one of the most significant engineering differences between the DBS and its sibling, the DB11. While the DB11 uses an aluminum clamshell, the DBS Superleggera utilizes Carbon Fiber for this massive component to live up to its “Superleggera” (Super-light) name.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Hood

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Hood is one of the most significant engineering differences between the DBS and its sibling, the DB11. While the DB11 uses an aluminum clamshell, the DBS Superleggera utilizes Carbon Fiber for this massive component to live up to its “Superleggera” (Super-light) name.

1. Technical Specifications

  • Material: 100% Carbon Fiber (Pre-preg composite).

  • Design: Forward-hinging “Clamshell” design. It is one of the largest single-piece carbon fiber automotive panels in production.

  • Part Number: KY73-16612-AC (This is the primary assembly code).

  • Weight Advantage: By switching from aluminum (DB11) to carbon fiber (DBS), Aston Martin significantly reduced front-end weight, aiding the car’s 51:49 front-to-rear weight distribution.

2. Visual & Functional Features

The DBS hood is easily distinguished from the DB11 by its aggressive cooling architecture:

  • Dual Heat Extractors: Features two deep, longitudinal vents located above the front axle line. These are essential for exhausting the immense heat generated by the 715 hp twin-turbo V12.

  • Internal Ducting: The underside of the hood is as complex as the top, featuring molded channels that direct high-pressure air out of the engine bay to reduce front-end lift.

  • Hood Strake Options: The vents are often trimmed with louvers/strakes available in:

    • Matte Black (Standard)

    • Gloss 2×2 Twill Carbon Fiber

    • Tinted Gloss Carbon Fiber

3. Pricing & Replacement (2026 Estimates)

Because this is a massive, structural piece of carbon fiber, the cost is substantial. | Condition | Estimated Price | Note | | :— | :— | :— | | New OEM (Primed) | $12,000 – $15,000 | Requires professional painting/fitting. | | New OEM (Exposed Carbon) | $18,000+ | Special order for cars with “Tinted Carbon” packs. | | Used (Grade A) | $7,500 – $9,000 | Extremely rare on the secondary market. |

4. Critical Installation Warning

  • The “Clamshell” Alignment: Like the DB11, the DBS hood meets the bumper, headlights, and A-pillars. Because carbon fiber does not “bend” or “shim” like aluminum, the mounting brackets must be perfectly indexed.

  • Heat Shielding: Ensure the under-bonnet insulation clips and heat shields are transferred or replaced. The V12’s turbos sit high in the engine bay; without proper shielding, the radiant heat can eventually cause “milking” or clouding in the carbon fiber’s clear coat.
