18×10″ BBS RR Wheels for Nissan Skyline

BBS RR is an exceptionally rare, competition-derived wheel that sits at the absolute pinnacle of BBS’s catalog for the Nissan Skyline GT-R. 1. Technical Specifications

The $18\times10″$ specification is the “holy grail” size for the R33 and R34 GT-R, offering a massive footprint with minimal unsprung weight.

  • Construction: One-piece Forged Magnesium.

  • Weight: Approximately 7.2 kg (15.8 lbs) per wheel. To put this in perspective, a standard forged aluminum wheel of the same size typically weighs 9.5–10.5 kg.

  • Offset: Usually found in +20mm or +18mm for the GT-R.

  • Center Bore: $66.1$ mm (Nissan hub-centric).

  • Design: A multi-spoke (mesh-adjacent) design with “lightweighting” pockets machined into the sides of the spokes and the hub mounting surface.

2. Fitment Guide: Skyline GT-R

  • R34 GT-R (BNR34): This is the ideal fitment. The $18\times10″$ +20 offset fills the flared fenders perfectly and clears the large factory Brembo calipers with ease.

  • R33 GT-R (BCNR33): A direct fit. This size was the standard “aggressive” upgrade for the R33 during the late 90s tuning era.

  • R32 GT-R (BNR32): Very aggressive. A 10-inch wide wheel with a +20 offset will likely require significant fender rolling and negative camber to clear the stock arches, especially if the car is lowered.

3. The Magnesium Factor: Care & Maintenance

Because these are magnesium, they require specialized care that aluminum wheels do not:

  • Corrosion: Magnesium is highly reactive. If the paint is chipped, the metal will begin to “chalk” and oxidize rapidly. Any curb rash must be sealed immediately to prevent structural degradation.

  • X-Ray Testing: For high-speed track use, many collectors have vintage magnesium wheels X-rayed or dye-penetrant tested to check for internal stress cracks that are invisible to the eye.

  • Refinishing: You cannot powder coat magnesium wheels at standard temperatures, as the heat can alter the grain structure of the alloy. They must be wet-painted using specialized primers.
