1. History & RPO C08

Although many owners later added vinyl to their 1963–1966 tops to match the trend of the late ’60s, the RPO C08 “Vinyl Covering for Auxiliary Hardtop” was officially introduced by Chevrolet for the 1967 model year.

• The Look: It provided a textured, matte finish that contrasted with the car’s paint, mimicking the look of a closed convertible top or the popular vinyl-roof coupes of the era.

• Colors: Factory-original 1967 vinyl tops were almost exclusively produced in Black. While white and tan vinyl are seen today, they are typically aftermarket applications or custom restorations.

   

2. Internal Differences (1966–1967)

If you are looking at a hardtop and trying to determine its “correctness” for a 1967 vinyl build, the interior is the giveaway:

• Headliner Material: For the 1963–1965 model years, C2 hardtops featured a cloth/foam headliner.

   

• The 1966/67 Update: For 1966 and 1967, Chevrolet switched to a cracked-ice pattern vinyl headliner. A factory-correct vinyl-covered top should have this matching vinyl interior lining.
