FERRARI 458 PDC Rear Bumper
Ferrari 458 Italia and Spider, the rear bumper configuration for the Park Distance Control (PDC) system is specific. If you are sourcing a replacement bumper or upgrading to carbon fiber components, here are the technical details you need:
1. PDC Configuration & Sensor Layout
-
Sensor Count: The factory rear PDC system utilizes 4 ultrasonic sensors.
-
Placement: These are typically integrated into the rear bumper strip (the horizontal “connector” piece above the diffuser).
-
Variations: Ferrari offered three distinct versions of this rear strip:
-
Standard: No holes (for cars without parking aids).
-
PDC Only: 4 precision-cut holes for the ultrasonic sensors.
-
PDC + Camera: 4 holes for sensors plus a central cutout for the rearview camera.
-
2. Compatibility: Italia vs. Spider
-
The rear bumper and PDC strip are cross-compatible between the 458 Italia (Coupe) and the 458 Spider.
-
Note on Speciale: The 458 Speciale uses a completely different rear aero/diffuser setup with a central exhaust; standard Italia/Spider rear bumpers and PDC harnesses will not fit the Speciale without extensive modification.
3. Wiring & Hardware
If you are performing a repair or a conversion, you will need the specific wiring harness for the bumper:
-
Rear Bumper Cable: Part numbers vary by VIN, but common variants include #261306 or #261305. This harness connects the four sensors to the main vehicle loom.
-
Sensor Mounting: The sensors snap into plastic brackets glued to the inside of the bumper skin. If buying a “bare” bumper, ensure these brackets are included, as they are difficult to transplant without damage.
4. Technical Tip for Installation
Paint Sensitivity: If you are painting a new bumper, the PDC sensors must be painted with a very thin layer of specialized automotive paint. Applying standard heavy clear coat can “blind” the sensors, leading to constant false alarms (ghost obstacles).
