The W222 Facelift (LCI) update in 2017/2018 significantly modernized the S-Class. The AMG Line front bumper is defined by larger, more aggressive air intakes compared to the standard “Luxury” trim, featuring a distinctive A-shape central vent and chrome or high-gloss black accents. Retrofit Intelligence: Pre-Facelift (2014–2017) Conversion
Upgrading a pre-facelift S350/S500 to the 2018+ AMG look is one of the most popular S-Class modifications, but it requires more than just the bumper skin.
Critical Retrofit Requirements:
Headlight Compatibility: You cannot use pre-facelift headlights with the facelift AMG bumper. The shape where the bumper meets the headlight is subtly different. Most successful retrofits use the “Triple Torch” Multibeam LED headlights.
The Grille Gap: The facelift grille is roughly 20% larger than the pre-facelift version. If you keep your old grille, there will be a visible gap. You must use the facelifted 3-slat grille.
Coding & Modules: To avoid errors for the 360° camera and radar, the front module (SAM) may need updated firmware or a conversion harness to recognize the new sensor positions.
Standard AMG-Line vs. S63 AMG Bumper
While both fit the W222, they are distinct:
-
AMG-Line (S350/S400/S500): Features a cleaner lower lip with chrome horizontal accents. It is designed to be sporty yet elegant.
-
S63/S65 AMG: Features massive, open side intakes with high-gloss black “flics” (wind deflectors) and a much deeper front splitter.
-
Fitment Note: S63 bumpers often require specific cooling ducts to be moved or modified because the V8 Biturbo cooling stack is larger than that of the S350/S500.
