18×10″ and 18×11″ BBS Motorsport E88 Wheels for BMW
BBS Motorsport E88 in a staggered $18\times10″$ and $18\times11″$ configuration is widely considered the “ultimate” track-spec setup for modern M-cars. Unlike the street-oriented BBS LM or RS, the E88 is a 3-piece motorsport wheel featuring forged aluminum centers (E88 centers are aluminum, while E30/E50 are magnesium) and heat-treated spun aluminum rim halves.
1. The “Golden” Fitment: E9X and F8X M3
This specific $10/11″$ stagger is the go-to choice for the E92 M3 and F80 M3 / F82 M4. It maximizes the mechanical grip available under the factory arches.
-
E9X M3 (2008–2013): Typically utilizes an ET21.5 (Schirmer-spec) or ET15/ET24 staggered offset. This allows for a 265/35R18 front and a massive 295/30R18 rear tire.
-
Note: Front clearance often requires a $5$ mm spacer to clear certain coilovers (like KW Clubsports).
-
-
F8X M3/M4 (2015–2020): A common “Race Pocket” fitment is ET21 front and ET34 rear. This setup is perfectly dialed for the F8X chassis, providing a flush look that handles track abuse without rubbing.
-
E46 M3: While $18\times10/11$ can fit, it is extremely aggressive. You will need roughly $-3.5^{\circ}$ of front camber and rolled/pulled rear fenders to avoid shredding tires.
2. Design Features: “Race Pocket” vs. Center Cap
When ordering or buying E88s, you must choose between two face types:
-
Open Pocket (Race Pocket): The most desirable version for BMWs. The area around the lug holes is machined out (back-milled) to save weight. These cannot accept a center cap.
-
Center Cap Face: Features a traditional bored center that accepts a BBS 3-prong center cap. This version is slightly heavier but preferred for street-driven “show” builds.
3. Maintenance & “Track Use Only”
BBS technically labels the E88 as “For Motorsport Use Only.” * No Seals: Unlike street wheels, E88s use a wet-seal (silicone) between the rim halves. Over time, heat cycles from track use or harsh road salt can cause them to leak air.
-
Fasteners: The perimeter bolts should be checked for torque periodically.
-
Unpainted Barrels: The inner and outer barrels are usually polished or raw aluminum, meaning they require regular polishing to prevent oxidation if driven in the rain.
