2024–2025 Gen 4 Coyote is the current pinnacle of the Ford 5.0L lineup. Swapping this into a project is a different “animal” than previous generations, primarily due to the new dual-intake architecture and locked-down electronics.

The Gen 4 Difference (S650 Era)

The Gen 4 introduces significant structural and induction changes that you need to be aware of for a successful swap:

  • Dual Throttle Bodies: This is the most striking visual and technical change. The Gen 4 uses two 80mm throttle bodies and dual air intake boxes, which increases airflow but requires more space in the engine bay of a swap candidate.

  • Power Ratings: * Standard GT: 480 HP / 415 lb-ft.

    • With Active Exhaust: 486 HP / 418 lb-ft.

    • Dark Horse: 500 HP (features forged rods from the GT500 “Predator” engine).

  • Steel Oil Pan: Unlike the plastic pans on the 2018–2023 models, the Gen 4 returned to a steel pan with improved baffling, which is much more durable for low-slung swap projects.


2026 Swap Market Value

With only 8k miles, this is essentially a brand-new “pullout.” Prices for Gen 4 drivetrains are currently at a premium because they are the “newest tech” and donor cars (totaled S650s) are still relatively rare.

Critical Swap “Roadblocks”

  1. Electronic Locking (PATS): The factory PCM on a 2024+ Mustang is heavily encrypted. You cannot simply “reflash” the stock computer for a swap as easily as you could with Gen 1 or 2.

  2. The Solution: You will almost certainly need the Ford Performance Gen 4 Control Pack (M-6017-M50DAUTO). This kit ($2,700–$2,800) includes a specially calibrated PCM that handles the dual throttle bodies and the 10R80 logic without needing the rest of the Mustang’s body modules.

  3. The “Gen 4X” Alternative: If your engine bay is too tight for dual air boxes, some builders use the Gen 4X setup, which uses Gen 4 internals but a Gen 3-style single throttle body intake.
