AMG GTR Rear Wing, Mercedes
Fixed High-Downforce Aerofoil | Carbon Fiber (Code U99) | C190 Coupe
The AMG GT R (C190) rear wing is a functional masterpiece, providing up to 155 kg (341 lbs) of additional downforce at top speed. Unlike the standard AMG GT or GT S, which use an electrically retractable spoiler, the GT R utilizes a fixed-mount aerofoil with manually adjustable blade angles for track optimization. AMG GTR Rear Wing, Mercedes

2. GT R vs. GT R Pro Wing
While they look similar at a distance, the GT R Pro (and 2020+ facelifts) received specific aerodynamic refinements:
-
The Gurney Flap: The GT R Pro wing includes a small, vertical “lip” on the trailing edge of the carbon blade to further increase downforce without significantly increasing drag.
-
Upright Design: The Pro model features revised mounting points to handle the increased load of the more aggressive aero package.
3. Retrofit for AMG GT / GT S / GT C
Installing a genuine GT R wing on a standard AMG GT (which has the active pop-up spoiler) is a popular but technical upgrade.
Important Installation Notes:
Active Aero Deactivation: Since the standard GT has a motor-driven spoiler, installing a fixed wing will trigger a dashboard error. You must use an Active Wing Deactivation Module or have the car coded to “Fixed Spoiler” mode using XENTRY.
The Base Plate: You cannot simply bolt the wing to the trunk lid. You need the GT R Specific Base Plate that replaces the active spoiler mechanism and provides the structural reinforcement required to handle the downforce.
Boot Struts: The GT R wing is heavier than the standard setup. You should upgrade to the higher-pressure GT R Gas Struts to ensure the trunk remains open safely.

5. Maintenance Pro-Tip
Because the wing is made of real carbon fiber with a high-gloss resin, it is highly susceptible to UV yellowing if left in the sun for years.
-
Protection: Apply a high-quality Ceramic Coating or a clear Paint Protection Film (PPF) to the top surface of the wing to prevent the resin from clouding or “burning” under heat.
