Aston Martin DB11 bumper, headlights, hood

The front end of the Aston Martin DB11 is defined by its massive aluminum clamshell hood and intricate LED lighting. Because the DB11 is a hand-assembled grand tourer, parts are often specific to the engine (V8 vs. V12) and the vehicle’s market (LHD vs. RHD).

RHD).

1. The “Clamshell” Hood (Bonnet)

The DB11 features one of the largest single-piece aluminum automotive pressings in the world. While the hoods are physically interchangeable, the vent configuration is the primary identifier for the engine under it.

  • V12 Hood (4 Vents): Part number HY53-16612-BA. Features four functional heat extractors.

  • V8 Hood (2 Vents): Identical stamping but only utilizes two central vents.

  • Material: 100% aluminum.

  • Price: A new OEM hood in primer typically costs $8,500 – $11,000. Used units are rare and often fetch $4,500+.

2. Front Bumper Assembly

The bumper is a multi-component assembly consisting of the painted upper cover, the lower splitter, and various grilles.

  • Main Bumper Cover: Part numbers often follow the HY53-17D957-AD/BD sequence.

  • V8 vs. V12 Aesthetics: * The V8 model typically features dark/black headlight bezels and specific mesh patterns.

    • The V12 often uses brighter “titanium” or silver mesh finishes for a more classic GT look

  • Parking Sensors (PDC): Ensure you source a bumper with the correct number of sensor holes (World vs. FED spec), as filling or drilling these in composite/plastic is difficult to do cleanly.

3. LED Headlights

The DB11 uses high-performance full-LED assemblies. These are sophisticated units that include daytime running lights (DRL) and “cornering” functions.

  • Part Numbers: * Right Side (LHD): JY53-13W029-BB (V12 Black Bezel spec).

    • Left Side (LHD): JY53-13W030-BB.

  • Identification: V8 models typically come standard with darkened/black bezels, while early V12s often have clear or silver internal housings.

  • Cost: These are among the most expensive components on the front end. A single new assembly costs approximately $4,500 – $5,500 (£4,400 + VAT).

Summary Table: Front End Components

Hood (V12) HY53-16612-BA $9,500 4 Vent Openings
Hood (V8) HY53-16612-AA $9,000 2 Vent Openings
Headlight (RH) JY53-13W029-BB $5,200 Full LED / Black Bezel
Bumper Cover HY53-17D957-AD $2,800 Primed / Requires Paint
Front Grille HY53-8150-AA $1,500 Bright Silver or Dark

Installation & Alignment Note

The DB11’s “Clamshell” hood meets the bumper, the doors, and the A-pillars simultaneously. Setting the gaps (the “shut lines”) is notoriously difficult. If the bumper is not aligned perfectly on its mounting brackets, the hood may strike the edges of the headlights or fenders when closing, leading to chipped paint.
