Aston Martin DBX leather dashboard
dashboard of the Aston Martin DBX is a centerpiece of its hand-crafted interior, known for using some of the highest-quality bovine hides in the automotive world. Unlike many luxury SUVs that use synthetic “leatherette” on the upper dash, the DBX typically features full-grain Bridge of Weir leather as standard.
1. Materials & Customization
Aston Martin offers an extensive range of “Environments” that dictate the look and feel of the dashboard:
-
Leather Grades: You can choose between Caithness (semi-aniline) or Balmoral (full-aniline) leathers. The latter is softer and more natural but requires more careful maintenance.
-
Split-Tone Designs: The dashboard is often configured in Duotone (two-tone), where the “Top Roll” (upper dash) is a darker color to reduce windshield glare, while the “Lower Zone” matches the seat secondary colors.
-
Stitching: The dash features intricate stitching patterns, including Brogue detailing (perforated patterns inspired by fine footwear) and contrast stitching that can be color-matched to your brake calipers or exterior paint.
2. Dashboard Environments
The DBX 707 and standard V8 models use specific themes for the dash and cabin:
-
Accelerate: Uses Alcantara inserts on the dash for a technical, sporty look.
-
Inspire: Focuses on high-end quilting and the most premium leather finishes across the entire dashboard surface.
-
Create: A more minimalist, contemporary approach with clean leather lines.
3. Care & Maintenance
Because the dashboard is constantly exposed to UV rays through the large windshield, it is the most vulnerable leather surface in the car.
-
UV Protection: Use a dedicated leather conditioner with UV inhibitors. Avoid silicone-based “gloss” protectors, which can cause the leather to dry out and crack over time, and create dangerous reflections on the glass.
-
Cleaning: Use a pH-neutral leather cleaner. Apply it to a microfiber cloth first, rather than spraying the dash directly, to prevent liquid from entering the speaker grilles or stitching.
-
Official Kit: Aston Martin partners with Swissvax to provide an official Leather Care Kit (Part No. 709027) specifically formulated for their hides.
