BENTLEY CONTINENTALGT GTC 18-24 3S 3SD Gearbox TUP W12 0DS
Bentley Continental GT / GTC W12 8-Speed PDK Gearbox
Series: 3S / 3SD (Third Generation: 2018–2024) Transmission Code: TUP / 0DS / DL1001-8A
For the third-generation Bentley Continental (W12 models), Bentley moved away from the traditional ZF torque-converter automatics to a high-performance 8-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (PDK). This unit is shared with the Porsche Panamera (971 platform) but features Bentley-specific software and reinforced internals to handle the W12’s 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque.
1. Identification & Part Numbers
The gearbox is often identified by three different codes depending on the manufacturer or part catalog being used:
-
Bentley/Factory Code:
TUP -
Engineering Type:
0DS -
Manufacturer Model (Porsche/ZF):
DL1001-8A(Dual-clutch Longitudinal) -
PR-Code:
G1G(8-speed automatic transmission for four-wheel drive)
2. Technical Specifications
-
Type: 8-Speed Dual-Clutch (PDK).
-
Drive: Integrated Active All-Wheel Drive (the front-axle drive is integrated into the transmission housing).
-
Clutch: Dual-mass flywheel with wet multi-plate clutches.
-
Operating Modes: * Sport: Shifts are up to 50% faster than the previous generation.
-
Comfort: Designed to mimic the smoothness of a traditional torque converter.
-
-
Speed: Top speed is reached in 7th gear; 8th gear acts as an overdrive for fuel efficiency and relaxed cruising.
3. Key Service & Maintenance Notes
-
Dual-Mass Flywheel: Unlike the older W12 models, this generation uses a dual-mass flywheel to dampen the engine vibrations before they reach the dual-clutch pack.
-
Oil Change Interval: Bentley recommends a transmission fluid and filter change every 40,000 to 50,000 miles (approx. 60,000-80,000 km), though many specialists suggest every 4 years for high-performance use.
-
Fluid Type: Requires specialized PDK dual-clutch fluid (e.g., VW G 055 529 or equivalent).
-
Software Pairing: If replacing the
TUPgearbox with a used unit, the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) is under Component Protection. It must be unlocked and “taught-in” to the vehicle’s VIN using Bentley ODIS software, or the car will not move.
