BMW 7 G11 G12 LCI Laser front package
The BMW 7 Series G11/G12 LCI Laser Front Package represents the technical peak of the 7 Series facelift (2019–2022). This package is specifically designed to provide the maximum lighting range and the most aggressive “Iconic” visual signature available for the flagship sedan.
1. BMW Laserlight Technology
The primary component of this package is the BMW Laserlight (Option Code 5AZ). These units are significantly more advanced than the standard Adaptive LEDs.
-
Illumination Range: The Laser high-beam mode can project up to 600 meters—nearly double the range of conventional LED high beams.
-
Selective Beam: Integrated “dazzle-free” technology allows the high beams to stay active while the system “carves out” a dark spot around oncoming traffic to prevent blinding other drivers.
-
Visual Distinctions: The Laser units feature characteristic Blue Accents within the hexagonal headlight housings and a more complex, multi-tiered Daytime Running Light (DRL) design.
2. Complete Package Components
A “Complete Laser Front Package” for the G11/G12 LCI is an extensive assembly. For a successful retrofit or repair, the following must be included:
| Component | Function / Specification |
| Laser Headlight Units | Left and right housings with Blue Laser etching. |
| Control Modules | Includes the main headlight ECU, LED driver modules, and Laser controllers. |
| Cooling Fans | Integrated high-speed fans required to manage the heat generated by the Laser diodes. |
| Front Bumper skin | M Sport or Pure Excellence spec with specific mounting brackets for the slim LCI lights. |
| Retrofit Wiring | High-speed data bus cables (required if upgrading from non-LCI or standard LED). |
3. LCI M Sport Integration
Because the Laserlights are 35mm slimmer than pre-facelift lights, the “Complete Front Package” usually bundles the aero components necessary to finish the look:
-
Grand Kidney Grilles: A unified, oversized single-piece surround, typically in High-Gloss Black (Shadowline) for Laser-equipped models.
-
Redesigned Hood (Bonnet): The LCI front package requires the updated hood with sharper contour lines to meet the enlarged grille and slim headlights.
-
Active Air Stream: The grilles include active shutters that open only when cooling is required, improving aerodynamics and the high-tech aesthetic of the Laserlight front end.
4. Retrofit & Technical Notes
-
Calibration: After installation, the Laserlight system requires a “teach-in” process via BMW ISTA software to calibrate the beam path with the vehicle’s ride-height sensors.
-
DRL Customization: A popular modification for this package is the CSL Yellow DRL Upgrade, which swaps the white LED boards for a motorsport-inspired amber/yellow hue, similar to the M5 CS.
-
Hardware Requirement: If you are retrofitting these onto a 2016–2019 model, a Facelift Adapter Module is often required to translate the older electrical signals to the new LCI Laser communication protocols.
