BMW F22 F87 M2 Competition Headlight Full Adaptive LED LCI SET
Full Adaptive LED “Icon” Design | LCI Retrofit | 2018–2021
The F87 M2 Competition and F22 LCI utilize the “Icon” Adaptive LED headlights, widely considered the pinnacle of lighting for this chassis. These units moved away from the traditional circular “Angel Eyes” to a modern, hexagonal “open ring” DRL signature. BMW F22 F87 M2 Competition Headlight Full Adaptive LED LCI SET

Distinguishing Genuine Adaptive LEDs
-
The “Dummy” Lens: On the F87 LCI / M2 Competition, only the outer projector is functional. The inner lens is a non-functional “dummy” shell, which is correct for OEM units.
-
Cornering Lights: Genuine Adaptive sets feature an extra LED module that illuminates the side of the road when the steering wheel is turned at low speeds.
-
VLD (Variable Light Distribution): These units support VLD, which changes the beam pattern based on vehicle speed (City, Highway, and Fog modes). Note: North American cars often have this “decoded” (disabled) from the factory but it can be enabled via coding.
Retrofit Intelligence (Pre-LCI to LCI)
 Mandatory for 2014–2017 (Pre-LCI) Owners:
Coding is Required: You cannot simply plug these in. You must code the FEM (Front Electronic Module) to recognize the LED signals instead of the old Xenon voltages. Without coding, you will face flickering and dashboard errors.
Hardware Compatibility: The physical shape of the headlight is identical to the Pre-LCI Xenon. You do not need to change your bumper or bonnet for this specific swap.
Modules: Ensure your “set” includes the LED control units (ballasts). If buying “naked” housings, you will need to purchase the four modules per light separately.
