BMW F87 M2 Competition Seats Interior Door Panel
Compatibility: BMW M2 Competition (F87) 2019–2021 | Retrofit: M2 OG (2016–2018), 2 Series (F22)
The M2 Competition interior introduced the “M Sport Seat” (Option S712) to the M2 lineup, a significant upgrade over the standard F22-style seats found in the early “OG” M2 models. This set is defined by its aggressive high-back design and the introduction of perforated Dakota leather with specific M-color highlights.

Key Performance & Design Features
-
Illuminated M2 Logos: The front backrests feature integrated M2 badges that illuminate upon vehicle entry. This is the primary visual differentiator from standard 2 Series seats.
-
S55-Spec Lateral Support: Designed to handle the increased lateral $G$-forces of the Competition model, the bolsters are significantly deeper and firmer than the base M2 seats.
-
Open-Pore Carbon Fiber: The door handles and center console trim typically feature “dry” carbon fiber, which has a matte, textured finish that reduces glare and fingerprints compared to high-gloss carbon.
-
Weight Profile: While visually similar to the M4 seats, the F87 M Sport seats are structurally optimized for the smaller cabin of the 2 Series, providing a lower seating position than the OG M2.
Professional Installation & Cataloging Notes
-
Retrofit Wiring: If installing these into an “OG” M2 (2016–2018) or an F22 2 Series, the seat mounting is identical. However, to make the M2 backrest logos illuminate, a simple 12V power tap is required, as the non-Competition wiring harness typically lacks this pin.
-
Coding (VO Coding): The vehicle’s FEM (Front Body Electronics Module) should be coded to recognize the M Sport seat profile. This ensures the airbag deployment speeds and heating curves are correctly calibrated for the Competition-spec hardware.
-
Maintenance: The perforated leather in these seats is designed to assist with airflow. When cleaning, avoid using thick creams or waxes that can clog the perforations; a dedicated liquid leather cleaner and a soft brush are recommended to maintain the “As New” matte look.
-
Airbag Safety: These seats contain side-impact airbags and pyrotechnic seatbelt tensioners. Ensure all battery power is disconnected for at least 15 minutes before beginning the swap to avoid triggering a hard SRS fault.
