BMW M2 Competition F87 F22 F23 headlights Full Adaptive LED LCI
Part Numbers: 63117469785 (Left) / 63117469786 (Right) Generation: LCI (Life Cycle Impulse / Facelift)
The LCI Full Adaptive LED headlights are the most advanced lighting option for the F-chassis 2 Series platform. Introduced with the 2018 facelift, these units replaced the older round “Corona Ring” design with a modern, hexagonal “Icon” DRL signature. These are standard on the M2 Competition and optional on the M240i/230i.
Technical Specifications
-
Compatibility: * BMW M2 (F87): LCI and Competition models (2018–2021).
-
BMW 2 Series (F22/F23): LCI models (2018–2021).
-
-
Technology: Full LED (Low beam, High beam, Indicators, and DRL).
-
Adaptive Function: Dynamic swiveling lenses that follow steering input.
-
Cornering Lights: Integrated dedicated LED reflectors for low-speed maneuvering.
Key Performance & Design Features
-
Hexagonal “Icon” DRLs: The signature look of the LCI generation. These daytime running lights are flattened at the top and bottom, giving the front fascia a wider, more aggressive “scowling” appearance.
-
BMW Selective Beam (Anti-Dazzle): These headlights utilize a camera-based system to “mask” out oncoming traffic. It allows you to drive with high beams permanently active by creating a dark tunnel around other vehicles while illuminating the rest of the road.
-
Variable Light Control: The beam pattern changes based on vehicle speed—wider for city driving to illuminate sidewalks, and longer/tapered for highway speeds to increase long-range visibility.
-
LED Turn Signals: Unlike the pre-LCI “Executive” lights which used incandescent bulbs for indicators, the LCI units feature high-visibility LED strips integrated into the upper brow of the housing.
Technical Installation & Retrofit Notes
When sourcing or installing these units, the following technical details are critical:
-
Module Requirements: A “Complete” headlight requires three specific modules per side:
-
Main LED Driver (FLM): The “brain” of the headlight.
-
DRL/Indicator Module: Powers the hexagonal rings and turn signals.
-
Cornering Light Module: Manages the side-illumination LEDs.
-
-
Pre-LCI to LCI Retrofit: While these headlights physically fit into the 2014–2017 Pre-LCI cars, they are not plug-and-play.
-
Wiring: The pin-out for the main connector is different.
-
Coding: The FEM (Front Body Electronics Module) must be coded via E-Sys to recognize the new LED drivers and disable the old Xenon/Halogen checks.
-
-
Venting & Moisture: Like all high-output LED units, these generate internal heat and feature Gore-Tex breather patches. Ensure these patches are intact; moisture ingress can fry the bottom-mounted FLM module.
-
Automatic Leveling: These units require the vehicle to be equipped with front and rear axle ride-height sensors to function correctly without throwing an “Adaptive Headlight Malfunction” error.
