Whether you are sourcing for the “classic” F87 chassis or the newest G87 generation, these interior sets define the cockpit’s performance aesthetic. Below are the technical specifications and key differences for both generations of the M2.

1. BMW M2 (G87) Generation (2023–Present)

The G87 interior is a major departure from the previous generation, featuring the BMW Curved Display and significantly more aggressive seating options.

  • M Carbon Bucket Seats (Option 48C):

    • Construction: CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) shells with multi-point harness cut-outs.

    • Weight: 9.6 kg (21 lbs) lighter than standard M Sport seats.

    • Key Detail: These feature a structural carbon “hump” on the seat base for extreme lateral support during track use and removable headrest pads for helmet clearance.

  • M Sport Seats (Standard):

    • Material: Vernasca leather (typically Black with M-color highlights or Cognac).

    • Features: Integrated headrests with an illuminated M2 badge and power-adjustable side bolsters.

  • Door Panels:

    • Design: Features “M Color” illuminated trim (M Highlight) and integrated ambient lighting.

    • Shadowline: Often paired with high-gloss black pull handles and carbon fiber trim inserts.

2. BMW M2 (F87) Generation (2016–2021)

The F87 seating evolved significantly between the “OG” (Original) and the “Competition/CS” models.

  • M2 Competition / CS Seats:

    • Architecture: Borrowed from the F82 M4, these feature the “open” backrest design and illuminated M2 badges.

    • Upholstery: Dakota Leather or Alcantara (CS) with contrast stitching in Polar Blue or Kyalami Orange.

  • OG M2 Seats (2016–2018):

    • Style: More traditional sport seats (similar to the F22 M235i/M240i) with blue contrast stitching. They lack the illuminated badge and the “hole” in the backrest found in the Competition models.

  • Door Panels:

    • Material: Primarily Alcantara inserts with contrast stitching.

    • CS/Motorsport Variant: The M2 CS Racing utilizes ultra-lightweight fiber composite panels with fabric door pulls (loops) instead of traditional handles, saving approximately 1.5 kg per side.

Technical Installation & Compatibility

  • Generation Gap: G87 seats are not a direct bolt-on for the F87 chassis. The G87 uses a newer electronic architecture (SP21) and different rail spacing compared to the F-chassis.

  • F87 Retrofits: The F87 seats are a popular upgrade for the F22 2 Series and F87 M2 OG. They are physically compatible, but the illuminated backrest logos require a simple 12V tap into the ambient lighting or seat power circuit.

  • Airbag & Occupancy: When swapping sets, always ensure the occupancy sensor mat (OC3) is compatible with the vehicle’s ACSM (Airbag Module). M-seats from a different region (e.g., Euro-spec vs. US-spec) may require the transfer of the original occupancy sensor to avoid SRS warnings.
