The E46 M3 interior is a hallmark of the “Golden Era” of BMW design. Technical Installation & Maintenance
-
Seat Heating Retrofit: If installing these into a car that did not originally have heated seats, you will need the Switch Center Console (with the heat buttons) and a wiring harness to connect the seats to the K-Bus and power distribution box.
-
Width Adjustment (Pneumatic): The M3 seats feature a button on the side to inflate/deflate the side bolsters. This requires a dedicated constant power feed. If retrofitting into a standard 3 Series, verify the pin-out on the yellow floor connector.
-
Leather Care: Walknappa is a “soft” leather and is prone to “bolster wear” on the driver’s side from entry and exit. For “As New” sets, it is critical to use a high-quality leather conditioner to keep the hides supple and prevent the leather from cracking over time.
-
Airbag Safety: These seats contain side airbags. When shipping or installing, ensure the battery is disconnected. If retrofitting a 2003+ (LCI) seat into an early 1999–2001 car, you may need to swap the seat belt tensioner to match the vehicle’s specific SRS resistance values.
