Chevrolet Corvette C2 Removable Hardtop

removable fiberglass hardtop for the C2 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray (1963–1967) is one of the most practical and aesthetic accessories for the “mid-year” convertibles. 1. Evolution & Identification (1963–1967)

While all C2 hardtops share the same general “angular” profile, there are subtle differences in hardware and materials that help identify their correct year:

Feature 1963–1965 1966–1967
Headliner Cloth/Foam: Typically a light grey or color-keyed fabric. Vinyl: Switched to a “cracked-ice” pattern vinyl headliner.
Latches Hook Style: Used a screw-type hook to secure to the windshield. Lever Style: Switched to a more modern flip-lever latch.
Rear Window Plexiglas (AS-4) Plexiglas (AS-4) with updated date coding.
Vinyl Cover N/A (Factory) RPO C08: First offered as a factory option in 1967.

2. The 1967 Vinyl-Covered Top (RPO C08)

The most famous variant of the C2 hardtop is the black vinyl-covered version introduced specifically for the 1967 model year.

  • The “Fad” Look: It was designed to mimic the look of a closed convertible or a formal coupe, a popular styling trend in the late ’60s.

  • Rarity: Because it was only a factory option for one year, original 1967 vinyl tops are the most valuable and difficult to find in an unrestored state.

3. Market Value (2026 Status)

As of early 2026, the price of C2 hardtops has increased significantly due to the rising value of Sting Ray convertibles.

  • Rough/Project Condition: A bare shell requiring new paint, seals, and headliner: $1,500 – $2,200.

  • Restored (Standard Paint): Professionally refinished with new weatherstripping and clear Plexiglas: $3,000 – $3,800.

  • Restored (1967 Vinyl): High-quality vinyl-covered tops with correct headliners: $4,000 – $5,500.

  • NOS/NCRS Survivor: Original paint or vinyl tops with date-matched original glass: $6,000+.

Recent Auction Note: In February 2026, a refurbished red C2 hardtop with a black headliner sold on Bring a Trailer for $3,500, setting the current baseline for “ready-to-use” examples
