Competition Clutch clutch Toyota Celica MR2 474 Nm
For the Toyota Celica and MR2 with the 3S-GTE engine, the specific Competition Clutch kit rated for 474 Nm (approx. 350 lb-ft) of torque is the Stage 4 – Strip Series 1620.
This kit is designed for high-horsepower builds where a significant increase in clamping force and torque capacity is required over the factory setup.
Product Specifications: Stage 4 (474 Nm)
-
Part Number:
16062-1620(Commonly fits SW20 MR2 Turbo and ST185/ST205 Celica GT-Four). -

Comparison of Competition Clutch Stages (3S-GTE)
If you are evaluating whether the 474 Nm version is right for your build, here is how it compares to the other street and track options:
| Stage | Disc Material | Torque Capacity | Driving Feel |
| Stage 2 | Brass Plus (Organic) | 338 Nm | Near-stock smoothness; best for daily use. |
| Stage 3 | Segmented Ceramic | 406 Nm | Shorter engagement; good for street/strip builds. |
| Stage 4 | 6-Puck Ceramic | 474 Nm | Aggressive/Chattery; best for track and high boost. |
Critical Technical Notes
-
Break-In Period: Competition Clutch strictly requires a 500-mile (800 km) break-in period. This should be strictly city driving (constant shifting) without high-RPM pulls or aggressive launches to ensure the ceramic pucks seat properly against the flywheel.
-
Flywheel Compatibility: This kit is designed to work with the OEM flywheel or the Competition Clutch Lightweight Steel Flywheel. If reusing an old flywheel, it must be resurfaced to ensure a flat mating surface and prevent premature clutch failure.
-
Application Warning: The Stage 4 ceramic material is very abrasive. While it holds high power, it will increase wear on the flywheel and is not recommended for heavy stop-and-go traffic due to its “on/off” engagement style.
