Dodge RAM Mopar steering wheel, leather, Limited TRX Laramie, heated
Dodge RAM (DT Platform, 2019–2024+), the high-end Mopar steering wheels are some of the most popular interior upgrades. While they share the same skeleton, the materials and functional “switch-packs” vary significantly between the Limited, Laramie, and TRX trims.
1. Trim-Specific Variations
| Trim | Primary Material | Signature Features |
| Limited | Premium Natura Plus Leather | Real open-pore wood insert at the top (Black Argento or Walnut). |
| Laramie | Smooth Grain Leather | Full leather wrap with silver or chrome bezel accents. |
| TRX | Alcantara® & Leather | Flat-bottom design with aluminum paddle shifters and a center “stripe” at 12 o’clock. |
2. Core Functional Features
To be considered a “Full Option” Mopar unit, the wheel must include:
-
Heating Element: Integrated into the rim (controlled via the 12-inch Uconnect screen).
-
Bezel Controls: Includes buttons for Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Gear Limit, and the Cluster Menu.
-
Rear Audio Controls: Hidden rocker switches on the back of the spokes for volume and track seeking.
-
Haptic Feedback: Some 2022+ models with Lane Keep Assist include a vibration motor inside the rim.
3. Compatibility & Retrofit Notes
If you are selling this as a retrofit for a lower trim (like a Big Horn or Tradesman), keep these technical constraints in mind:
-
The Clockspring: A non-heated truck has a different clockspring than a heated one. To make the Heated function work, the buyer will likely need to swap the clockspring and potentially the steering column control module (SCCM).
-
Paddle Shifters: If installing a TRX wheel into a Laramie or Limited, the paddle shifters are “plug-and-play” on most 2019+ DT trucks, but may require a software flash (using AlfaOBD or a dealer tool) to activate.
-
Airbag Fitment: The driver-side airbag is interchangeable across all DT steering wheels. However, it will not fit from the older “DS” (RAM Classic) body style.
4. Technical Inspection for Inventory
| Component | What to Check |
| Leather Condition | Look for “glazing” (shiny spots) or oils from skin. Premium Natura leather should have a matte, supple finish. |
| Wood Trim (Limited) | Inspect the top wood section for hairline cracks caused by UV exposure or extreme temperature shifts. |
| Stitching | Check for fraying at the 10 and 2 o’clock positions (high-grip areas). |
| Connectors | Ensure the yellow (Airbag), white (Controls), and black (Heated) plugs are not cracked or pinned-out. |
Part Number Identification
-
TRX Flat-Bottom: Often starts with 6PS43…
-
Limited Wood/Leather: Often starts with 6PS41…
