Dodge RAM TRX 711PS transmission
Dodge RAM TRX (702 hp / 711 PS) uses the TorqueFlite 8HP95 8-speed automatic transmission. This is a heavy-duty, high-torque variant of the ZF 8HP family, specifically shared with other extreme-performance “Hellcat-powered” vehicles like the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat.
While the “Standard” RAM 1500 uses the 8HP75, the TRX requires the 8HP95 to survive the $881\text{ Nm}$ ($650\text{ lb-ft}$) of torque generated by the 6.2L Supercharged HEMI V8.
Technical Specifications: ZF 8HP95

Gear Ratios
The 8HP95 in the TRX is geared for explosive off-the-line acceleration while maintaining a deep overdrive for highway cruising:
-
1st: 4.71
-
2nd: 3.14
-
3rd: 2.11
-
4th: 1.67
-
5th: 1.29
-
6th: 1.00
-
7th: 0.84
-
8th: 0.67
-
Reverse: 3.30
Critical Performance Features
-
Launch Control & Assist: The transmission works with the ABS sensors to detect wheel hop. If detected, the TCU (Transmission Control Module) instantly modulates engine torque to prevent drivetrain damage while maintaining maximum traction.
-
Baja Mode: When engaged, the transmission holds gears longer and performs rev-matched downshifts to ensure the supercharger is always in the power band during high-speed desert running.
-
Heavy Duty Internals: Compared to the 8HP75, the 8HP95 features extra clutch plates, reinforced gear sets, and a high-capacity torque converter designed for high-RPM launches.
Maintenance & Service Notes
-
Thermal Management: The TRX runs a dedicated high-capacity transmission oil cooler. It is normal for this unit to operate at higher temperatures ($80\text{°C}$ to $100\text{°C}$) than a standard truck during spirited driving.
-
Filter Service: The transmission filter is integrated into the oil pan. To change the filter, you must replace the entire composite plastic oil pan.
-
Fluid Level: There is no dipstick. The level must be checked via a standpipe plug on the side of the transmission case at a specific operating temperature ($30\text{°C}$ to $50\text{°C}$).
Inventory / Professional Tip
If you are sourcing a used TRX transmission, verify the Part Number or T-code on the side of the case. While it looks similar to the Trackhawk 8HP95, the bellhousing and tailshaft housing may differ to accommodate the TRX’s unique 4WD transfer case (BorgWarner 44-40).
