Ford F150 headlights
Ford F-150 (2015–2026) uses three distinct headlight technologies across its generations. Because Ford redesigned the front fascia in 2018, 2021, and 2024, parts are generally not interchangeable between these year groups.
1. 13th Generation (2015–2020)
This generation is split by the 2018 facelift. The 2015–2017 models use a “three-bar” grille design, while the 2018–2020 models use the “two-bar” design that cuts into the headlight.
| Technology | Found On | Identification |
| Halogen Reflector | XL, XLT | Yellowish light. Uses H11 (Low) and 9005 (High) bulbs. |
| Factory LED | Lariat (502A+), Platinum | “C-clamp” DRL outline. White, crisp light. Sealed unit (no bulbs). |
| Quad-Beam LED | Limited, Raptor | Distinct 4-lens stack. Dark or satin bezels. |
2. 14th Generation (2021–2023)
Ford shifted toward standardizing LED lighting, though base trims still utilized halogen reflectors.
-
Reflector Halogen: Standard on XL/XLT. Uses a single large reflector bowl.
-
Reflector LED: Optional on XLT (302A). Provides LED performance with a reflector look.
-
Dynamic Bending LED: Standard on Lariat and above. These feature Adaptive Cornering, where the projector physically swivels with the steering wheel.
3. 2024–2026 Facelift (The “Coast-to-Coast” Look)
The current models feature a major redesign. The “C-clamp” DRL is now more vertical and integrated into the grille.
-
LED Projectors: Now standard on nearly all trims except base work trucks.
-
Part Note: These units are highly complex and often include integrated modules for the “Pro Trailer Hitch Assist” sensors.

Technical Inspection for Resale
-
The “Tab” Problem: F-150 headlights have several long plastic mounting tabs. Even a small impact can snap the lower tab, which is hidden behind the bumper. Always check for “plastic welding” repairs here.
-
Internal Condensation: Ford issued several TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) regarding moisture. Minor fogging that clears is normal, but standing water at the bottom of the lens indicates a failed seal.
-
Module Transfer: When buying a used LED headlamp, check if the Ballast/Driver Module is included on the bottom of the housing. These are often removed and sold separately.
