Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door (X290) MULTIBEAM LED Headlights
High-Performance Adaptive Lighting | 2019–2026
The MULTIBEAM LED system (Option Code 642) is the premium lighting tier for the X290 chassis. It features 84 individually controllable LEDs per headlight, allowing for ultra-precise light distribution that can “mask out” oncoming traffic while maintaining high-beam illumination elsewhere. Genuine Part Numbers & Identification
There are several variations based on production year and region (USA/DOT vs. Europe/ECE). Always verify with your VIN before purchasing.
-
Design Note: Multibeam units are distinguished by the blue accents inside the lens housing and the “MULTIBEAM LED” lettering.
-
Interchangeability: Part numbers like A2909062501 (Left) and A2909062601 (Right) are also common for earlier X290 models.
Technical & Pricing Intelligence
2026 Market Pricing:
New (OEM): Expect to pay between $2,300 – $3,700 per side for a complete assembly from a dealership.
Used (Great Condition): Typically ranges from $900 – $1,700 per side on marketplaces like eBay.
Note on “Bare” Units: Many used listings are for the “Headlight Shell” only. They do not include the LED ballasts/control modules, which can cost an additional $300–$500 each.
Retrofit & Installation Advisory
-
The Control Modules: Each headlight requires multiple modules (Power Modules and Fan Control). If you are replacing a crashed unit, you can often swap your old modules to the new shell to save money, provided they weren’t water-damaged.
-
SCN Coding: Genuine Mercedes headlights are not “plug-and-play.” Once installed, they must be SCN Coded using a XENTRY diagnostic system so the car’s computer recognizes the new hardware and calibrates the adaptive beam.
-
Regional Differences: USA headlights have amber side reflectors required by law; European spec units are clear. Mixing them will cause an aesthetic mismatch and potential legal issues during inspections.
