Intake manifold McLaren 570s complete

Intake Manifold (often referred to as the Plenum) for the McLaren 570S is a critical component of the $3.8\text{L}$ M838TE engine. Because the 570S uses a mid-engine layout, the intake manifold sits directly on top of the engine block, split into two halves (Bank 1 and Bank 2).

1. Component Identification

A “complete” intake manifold assembly for the 570S typically consists of the following components:

  • The Upper Plenums: Left and Right composite housings.

  • The Throttle Bodies: Two electronic units (one for each bank).

  • Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensors: Critical for boost control.

  • Gaskets and Seals: The vital orange/red silicone seals that prevent boost leaks.

  • Part Number (Standard): 13B2874CP (varies by revision).

  • original manifolds on 570S models (2016–2019) are prone to two specific issues:

    • The “Hissing” Boost Leak: The composite material can develop hairline cracks over thousands of heat cycles, or the gaskets can flatten. This leads to a loss of power and a “Low Boost” error code.

    • Oil Pooling: Due to the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) design, oil vapor can settle in the bottom of the intake manifold. If you are buying a “complete” used unit, ensure it has been thoroughly cleaned, as old oil can gunk up the new throttle bodies.

    • Loose Bolts: Surprisingly, the bolts securing the manifold to the head can vibrate loose over time. A “complete” replacement should always include a fresh set of one-time-use mounting bolts.

    4. Installation & Calibration

    • Throttle Body Realignment: If the “complete” manifold includes new throttle bodies, you must perform a Throttle Adaptation using the McLaren Diagnostic System (MDS). The car may have an erratic idle or “stall” if the computer doesn’t know the new resting positions of the butterflies.

    • Access: This is a “top-down” job. You must remove the rear engine mesh cover and the air intake ducting. It is highly recommended to replace the Inlet Manifold Gaskets (11A1347CP) during this process to ensure a perfect seal.

    5. Performance Upgrades

In 2026, many owners are moving away from the OEM composite manifold in favor of Billet Aluminum Manifolds (from companies like Renaissance Speed). These are virtually indestructible and eliminate the risk of “ballooning” or cracking under high-boost applications (stage 2+ tunes).
