Lotus Elise S1 Steering Knuckle New
brand new steering knuckle (often called a “hub carrier” or “upright”) for the Lotus Elise S1 can be challenging, as many original parts are now discontinued or only available as high-quality used units.
The S1 uses distinct components depending on the corner of the car. The front knuckles are made of extruded aluminum, while the rears are typically a larger casting designed to house the drive shafts.
1. Front Steering Knuckles (Aluminum)
The front uprights are synonymous with the “lightweight” ethos of the S1.
-
Part Numbers: A111C0007F (Front Left) and A111C0008F (Front Right).
-
New Availability: “New Old Stock” (NOS) is extremely rare. However, specialists like Seriously Lotus and Elise Shop occasionally secure batches of new-production units or high-quality refurbishments.
-
Pricing: Expect to pay $400 – $600 per side if found new.
2. Rear Steering Knuckles (Hub Carriers)
The rears are more robust to handle the power delivery and toe-link attachments.
-
Part Numbers: A111D0005F (Rear Left) and A111D0006F (Rear Right).
-
New Availability: These are even harder to find new than the fronts. Most owners opt for used units that have been vapor-blasted and fitted with new bearings.
-
Pricing: Used units average $250 – $400, while a rare new unit can exceed $700.
3. Aftermarket & Performance Alternatives
Because OEM parts are scarce, several Lotus specialists have developed “Uprated” versions that often exceed the strength of the original S1 parts:
-
Steel/Forged Uprights: Some owners upgrade to the S2-style forged steel uprights (Part #A116C0002F). While heavier than the S1 aluminum, they are significantly stronger and less prone to “ear” failure under heavy track use. You will need S2-specific steering arms and brake brackets for this swap.
-
Motorsport Uprights: Companies like ELTECH or Quantum produce billet aluminum uprights. These are strictly for high-end track builds and can cost upwards of $2,000 for a full set.
