This steering wheel is the peak of the AMG GT (C190) facelift interior. While the early GT models used a circular airbag design, the 2019–2021+ models (and specifically the GT R and GT R Pro) moved to this “flat-bottom” generation.

1. Material Specification & “Night Package” Styling

• Matte Carbon Fiber: The top and bottom segments are finished in raw-texture matte carbon. Unlike high-gloss carbon, this does not show fingerprints and offers a more “technical” appearance.

• DINAMICA Grip: The 9-and-3 grip areas are wrapped in black DINAMICA microfibre for maximum friction when wearing driving gloves or during high-intensity track use.

• Night Package (Black Trim): As part of the AMG Night Package, the silver aluminum spokes and paddle shifters are replaced with Gloss Black or Dark Galvanized finishes, creating a monochromatic, aggressive look.

• 12 O’Clock Marker: Usually features a discreet black-on-black stitch or a contrasting Grey/Yellow stripe depending on the vehicle’s specific edition.

2. The AMG Drive Unit (Code U88)

On the C190 GT R, this wheel is almost always equipped with the U88 Satellite Buttons:

1. Right Side (Rotary): Quickly toggles between Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race, and Individual.

2. Left Side (Display Buttons): Two customizable screens to control the 9-stage Traction Control (exclusive to GT R), Active Aerodynamics, and Exhaust valves.

⚠️ Critical for Pre-Facelift (2015–2018) Owners:

If you are installing this wheel into a pre-facelift AMG GT, it is not plug-and-play.

• Button Protocol: The old cars use a different LIN-bus protocol for steering wheel buttons. You will need a conversion module (decoder) to make the buttons and the U88 displays function.

• Airbag Change: The pre-facelift airbag is physically different and will not fit this wheel frame. You must purchase the 2019+ airbag.

5. Maintenance for Matte Carbon & DINAMICA

• Matte Carbon: Do not use wax or polishing compounds on the carbon segments; this will create permanent shiny spots. Use only a damp microfibre or a dedicated matte detailer.

• DINAMICA Grip: If the microfibre becomes “slick” or smooth, it is saturated with hand oils. Clean it with a specialized Alcantara cleaner and a soft brush to restore the “fuzzy” grip.
