MERCEDES AMG Steering Wheel Alcantara C63 E63 S63 G63 GLE GT
Material: DINAMICA (Alcantara) | AMG Drive Unit (U88) | 2019–2026+
This steering wheel is the definitive control interface for the modern Mercedes-AMG 63 and 53 series. While often referred to as “Alcantara,” Mercedes-Benz uses DINAMICA®, a high-grade, sustainable microfibre that provides superior grip under high-lateral G-forces and remains temperature-stable in extreme weather. Key Model-Specific Applications
While the core architecture is shared, the stitching and 12 o’clock marker often denote the specific model:
-
AMG GT / GT Black Series: Often features Yellow stitching and a yellow 12 o’clock marker.
-
C63 S / E63 S: Typically features Crystal Grey or Red stitching.
-
G63 AMG / S63: Often specified in full Black DINAMICA for a “Stealth” luxury look.
-
GLE 63 S: Usually features a thicker rim profile for SUV ergonomics.
The AMG Drive Unit (U88)
The Alcantara/DINAMICA wheel is almost always paired with the U88 digital controllers:
-
Right Rotary Dial: Instantly switch between Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race, and Individual modes.
-
Left Display Buttons: Two haptic feedback screens that allow you to toggle the Performance Exhaust, Suspension Dampening, Manual Shift Mode, and ESP Sport without moving your hands from the 9-and-3 grip position.
Installation & Maintenance
⚠️ Maintenance Tip: DINAMICA (Alcantara) requires specific care. Unlike leather, it can become “matted” or “greasy” due to hand oils. Use a dedicated microfibre cleaner and a soft-bristled brush every 3–6 months to “bloom” the fabric and maintain the suede-like grip.
Retrofit Requirements:
-
Airbag: If upgrading from a standard Mercedes-Benz wheel, you will need the AMG-specific round airbag.
-
Coding: For the LCD buttons (U88) to function in a car that didn’t have them, you will need an Active OBD Coding Dongle or a technician with XENTRY/Vediamo to enable the communication over the LIN-bus.
-
Heating: Note that full DINAMICA wheels are rarely heated. If steering wheel heating is a priority, you usually have to opt for the Nappa Leather version (Code 443).
Why Choose Genuine AMG?
Aftermarket “Alcantara” wraps often use lower-grade fabric that pilled or thins within a year. Genuine Mercedes-AMG units use a specific thickness of DINAMICA bonded to a magnesium core, ensuring the wheel is perfectly balanced for the vibration-sensitive steering racks of the C63 and GT models.
