Integrated AIRSCARF® (Code 403) | Nappa Leather | 2017–2023

The A238 E-Class Cabriolet front seats are masterpiece of open-top engineering. While they appear similar to the Coupe (C238) seats, the Cabriolet versions are technically distinct due to the integration of the AIRSCARF® neck-level heating system. This feature extends your convertible season by blowing warm air through vents located just below the headrest, enveloping the neck and shoulders of the driver and passenger.  Mercedes w238 E Class Convertible Front Seats Airscarf 238

Key Features & Technology

  • AIRSCARF® (Code 403): Specialized heating elements and fans built into the seat backrest with adjustable silver-trimmed vents.

  • Automatic Belt Feeder: Built-in sensors that coordinate with the car’s B-pillar-less design to “hand” you the seatbelt upon entry.

  • Easy-Entry Function: Mechanical/Electric shoulder release that slides the seat forward for rear-seat access.

  • Sun-Reflecting Leather: Genuine Nappa sets for the A238 often feature a special coating that keeps the leather up to 20°C cooler than standard leather when left in direct sunlight with the top down.

Retrofit & Fitment Considerations

⚠️ Critical Difference: Do not buy C238 Coupe seats for an A238 Cabriolet. Coupe seats usually lack the internal ducting and wiring for the Airscarf system. While they will physically bolt in, you will lose the neck-heating functionality.

  1. The Door Module: If you are retrofitting Airscarf into a car that didn’t have it, you must replace the door switch blocks with the version that includes the “Fan/Neck” icon button.

  2. Coding: The vehicle’s CGW (Central Gateway) must be coded to recognize Code 403. Without this, the car will not send power to the Airscarf blowers even if the seats are plugged in.

  3. Climate Control Integration: The Airscarf system is intelligent; it automatically adjusts the fan speed based on the vehicle’s road speed and outside temperature.

What is included in a front seat set?

  • Driver & Passenger Seats: Complete with headrests and integrated Airscarf vents.

  • Seat Rails & Motors: Fully assembled for plug-and-play mechanical installation.

  • Control Modules: Often located under the seat cushion to manage heating/memory functions.
