Porsche 911 Carrera 992 brake system brake brake 330

For the Porsche 911 Carrera (992 generation), the 330mm brake system is the foundation of the model line. While the higher-trim S and GTS models moved to larger 350mm or 408mm discs, the standard Carrera and Carrera 4 initially utilized this 330mm setup.

1. Technical Specifications (Standard Carrera)

The 992 Carrera brake system is engineered for consistent thermal management and high-speed stability.

  • Front Axle:

    • Disc Diameter: $330\text{mm}$

    • Disc Thickness: $34\text{mm}$ (Minimum service limit: $32\text{mm}$)

    • Caliper: 4-piston aluminum monobloc fixed calipers.

    • Finish: Typically finished in Black (standard) or optionally Red.

  • Rear Axle:

    • Disc Diameter: $330\text{mm}$

    • Disc Thickness: $28\text{mm}$ (Minimum service limit: $26\text{mm}$)

    • Caliper: 4-piston aluminum monobloc fixed calipers with integrated electric parking brake.

2. Official Part Numbers (Reference)

Component Part Number (Front) Part Number (Rear)
Brake Disc (Left) 9P1.615.301 9P1.615.601
Brake Disc (Right) 9P1.615.302 9P1.615.602
Brake Pads (Set) 9P1.698.151 9P1.698.451
  • Note: Many 992 owners upgrade their discs to Zimmermann “Coat Z” or Brembo UV Coated rotors to prevent the hub from rusting, which is a common visual complaint on standard steel rotors.

3. The “350mm Upgrade” Factor

Starting with the 2024–2025 mid-cycle updates (992.2), Porsche standardized the 350mm front and rear discs for the base Carrera, using the 6-piston front calipers formerly found on the Carrera S.

  • If you have a 330mm system: It is likely a 2019–2023 base Carrera.

  • Wheel Clearance: The 330mm system is designed to fit comfortably behind the base 19-inch Carrera wheels. If you upgrade to 20/21-inch wheels, the 330mm discs may look visually “small” in the barrel, leading many owners to look for the Red 350mm S-Brake retrofit.

    4. Maintenance & Service Tips

  • Piston Retraction: Like most modern Porsches, the rear calipers feature an Electric Parking Brake (EPB). You must use a diagnostic tool (PIWIS, Autel, or OBDLink) to put the car in “Brake Service Mode” to retract the electronic motor before you can compress the pistons.

  • Bedding-In: New 330mm discs and pads require a “bedding” period of approximately 200 miles of light-to-moderate braking to transfer a layer of pad material to the disc surface for optimal performance.

  • Bolt Replacement: Porsche specifies that the caliper mounting bolts are “stretch bolts” and must be replaced every time the caliper is removed
