Recaro Seats for Porsche
Recaro and Porsche have a history that goes back decades—Recaro actually manufactured many of the factory seats for the 911, 944, and 928. When upgrading today, the choice usually comes down to whether you want a modern “OEM+” look or a period-correct “Classic” restoration.

1. Modern Performance (997, 991, 992, 718)
For newer water-cooled cars, owners typically choose one of these three. They solve the common complaint that standard Porsche seats are “too flat” for track use.
-
Recaro Sportster CS / GT:
-
The Vibe: The ultimate hybrid. It looks like a factory GT3 seat but has a reclining backrest.
-
Best for: Daily drivers. It’s the easiest to live with because it folds forward to allow access to the back seats.
-
Tip: The “Cross” Sportster CS has flatter side bolsters on the seat base, making it easier to slide in and out of SUVs or lowered cars.
-
-
Recaro Pole Position (ABE):
-
The Vibe: The most popular fixed-back bucket in the Porsche world.
-
Best for: Weekend warriors and canyon carvers. It is widely considered the most comfortable “race” seat for street use because of its wider hip area.
-
-
Recaro Podium (CF/GF):
-
The Vibe: A futuristic, ultra-lightweight carbon shell.
-
Best for: High-end 991/992 builds. It is a “shell-in-shell” design that looks like something out of a GT3 RS and is exceptionally light (approx. 4.3kg for the shell).
-
2. The “Classic Line” (Pre-1998)
Recaro recently released the Classic Line specifically for air-cooled Porsches (G-Body, 964, 993). These use period-correct materials like Pepita (Houndstooth), Corduroy, and Checkered fabric.
Classic LX: Features an extendable seat cushion. It looks right at home in a 1970s or 80s 911.
-
Classic LS: Has much larger side bolsters. If you have an SC or Carrera 3.2 and want to stop sliding around without installing a full race bucket, this is the one.
-
Classic Pole Position: A vintage-styled version of the standard Pole Position, often finished in leather with a Pepita center to match early 911 interiors.
3. Installation & “The Porsche Tax”
Installing Recaros in a Porsche requires a specific stack of hardware. You generally cannot just bolt the seat to the floor.
-
Floor Mount / Bracket: Connects the car’s floor to the seat assembly (Brands like BBi Autosport, Planted, or Cantrell are popular).
-
Sliders: If you want to move the seat back and forth.
-
Side Mounts: Only required for fixed-back seats (Pole Position, Profi, Podium).
-
Airbag Resistors: 997-generation and newer cars will throw a dashboard error if the factory seat (which contains an airbag) is removed. You will need a simple resistor “bridge” to trick the car into thinking the airbag is still there.
