ROLLS ROYCE PHANTOM 2007 Engine Control Module Kit +Wrench

For a 2007 Rolls-Royce Phantom (MK7), the Engine Control Module (ECM), or DME (Digital Motor Electronics), is a complex dual-unit system. Because of the car’s security architecture, replacing a single module is not possible without advanced synchronization.

By 2026, most owners and technicians refer to an “ECM Kit” (or “Start Kit”) to avoid the high cost of dealer programming.

1. What is in a 2007 Phantom “Start Kit”?

Because the engine won’t start if the VIN and security codes don’t match across multiple computers, a used or “kit” purchase usually includes:

  • 2x DME Units (Engine Computers): The Phantom V12 uses two Bosch DMEs (Part No. 12147578092 or 7506280) to manage each bank of the engine.

  • CAS Module (Car Access System): The “security gatekeeper” that recognizes your keys.

  • Matching Key Fobs: At least one (preferably two) keys that are already paired to that specific CAS module.

  • Wrench / Tool Note: While there isn’t a specific “Rolls-Royce Wrench” included in factory ECU kits, a 10mm deep socket and a T25/T30 Torx are the primary tools needed to access the DME box located in the engine bay (typically under the passenger-side cowl).

2. Part Numbers & Costs (2026)

  • Individual New DME: A single brand-new DME from a dealer costs approximately $3,200 and arrives “blank.” It requires specialized ISTA/P software to be programmed to your car’s specific VIN.

3. Why the “Wrench” Matters

If you are looking for a kit that includes a “wrench,” you may be referring to an Emergency Mechanical Key or a specialized ECU Opening Tool.

  • Emergency Key: Every Phantom fob has a slide-out mechanical key. If you buy a kit, ensure these blades are included so you can manually unlock the driver’s door if the battery dies.

  • The Valvetronic Adjustment: On the 2007 N73 engine, some technicians use a specific thin-walled wrench to manually reset the Valvetronic eccentric shaft positions if the new DMEs trigger a “Limp Mode” upon first start.

4. Installation & Programming Warnings

  1. VIN Mismatch: If you install a used kit, your dashboard (instrument cluster) may display a “Tamper Dot” (a small red dot near the odometer) because the mileage in the new CAS won’t match the mileage in your cluster.

  2. Cloning Service: In 2026, a more popular option than buying a “kit” is an ECU Cloning Service (). You send your original (broken) DME and a “donor” (used) DME to a specialist. They copy the data 1:1, making the donor “Plug-and-Play” with no other parts needed.

  3. Synchronization: If you only replace the DMEs, you must perform a DME-CAS Alignment. This can be done with a high-end scanner (Autel, Launch, or BMW ICOM).

5. Associated Parts Often Required

  • Integrated Supply Module (IVM): Part No. 12527510638. This is the power distribution board for the ECUs. Often, what looks like an ECU failure is actually a blown fuse or relay inside the IVM.

  • Valvetronic Control Modules: These are two separate modules that work alongside the DMEs.
