Toyota GT 86 / Subaru BRZ D2 coilover suspension lowering kit

Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ (2012–2021), the D2 Racing Street (RS Series) coilovers are the most popular suspension upgrade for achieving a lower stance and improved handling without a harsh “race-only” ride quality.

1. Technical Specifications (Street Series)

This kit is designed specifically for the ZN6/ZC6 chassis and is compatible with the newer GR86 (ZN8) and BRZ (ZD8) as well.

2. Key Features

  • Separate Height & Preload: You can adjust the ride height by winding the lower mount up or down. This means you don’t have to compress the spring to lower the car, which preserves full shock travel and prevents a “bouncy” ride.

  • Camber Adjustment: The front McPherson struts include integrated camber plates, allowing you to fine-tune your alignment for better turn-in or to fit wider wheels.

  • Corrosion Resistance: The shock bodies are made from 6061 Aluminum and the threads are Teflon-coated, which is vital for preventing the collars from seizing in regions where road salt is used.

  • Anti-Noise Technology: These kits feature a patented rubber-vulcanized pillowball layer in the top mounts, which significantly reduces the “clunking” noise often associated with aftermarket coilovers.

3. Progressive Lowering Springs (Alternative)

If you prefer to keep your factory shock absorbers but want a more aggressive look, D2 also offers the PRO Series Lowering Springs:

  • Part Number: D-SP-SC-06

  • Drop: Approx. 45mm (1.75″) Front and 32mm (1.25″) Rear.

  • Benefit: A cost-effective way to reduce the “wheel gap” while maintaining 90% of the OEM comfort levels.

4. Important Installation Notes

  • End Links: The GT86/BRZ uses front sway bar end links that attach to the strut. The D2 kit includes the necessary brackets, but it is often recommended to use adjustable end links if you are lowering the car more than 30mm to prevent sway bar pre-load.

  • Rear Adjustment: Because the rear of the GT86 is a multi-link setup, you will need to remove the trunk liners to access the damping adjustment knobs. Many owners install D2 Adjustment Extensions to make changes without dismantling the trunk.
