Toyota GT86 seats – driver – passenger – rear seat
Toyota GT86 (ZN6) and Subaru BRZ feature a specialized 2+2 seating configuration designed for performance, with the lowest “hip-point” of any Toyota production vehicle at the time of its release.
1. Front Sport Bucket Seats
The front seats are highly bolstered to provide lateral support during high-G cornering.
| Trim Level | Primary Material | Features |
| GT / Base | Black Fabric (Silver/Red stitching) | Manual adjustment (6-way driver, 4-way passenger), high side bolsters. |
| GTS / Premium | Alcantara® + Leather bolsters | Two-stage heating, “Grip” inserts to prevent sliding, upscale aesthetic. |
| Special Editions | Tan/Red Leather or Suede | Unique colorways (e.g., Hakone Tan or TRD Red accents). |
-
Adjustment: The driver’s seat includes a height adjustment lever to allow for an ultra-low center of gravity or a higher vantage point for daily commuting.
-
Airbags: All front seats contain integrated side-impact SRS airbags. When swapping for aftermarket seats (like Recaro or Bride), a 2.2-ohm resistor is typically required to bypass the airbag warning light.
2. Rear Seats (The 2+2 Design)
The rear seats in the GT86 are notoriously cramped and are best suited for children, short trips, or “emergency” use for adults.
-
The “4-Tire” Rule: Tetsuya Tada, the chief engineer, famously designed the rear area so that when the seatback is folded down, the car can fit four full-sized track wheels and tires, a floor jack, and a tool kit—making it a self-sufficient track-day machine.
-
One-Piece Folding: Unlike many cars with a 60/40 split, the GT86 rear seatback is a single-piece unit. It folds flat via a pull-strap located in the trunk or near the shoulder of the seat.
-
ISOFIX: The rear seats include two ISOFIX/LATCH anchor points for child safety seats, though front-passenger legroom will be severely restricted if a rear-facing seat is installed.
