Toyota Supra MKV MK5 A90 Downpipe BMW Z4 Supersprint like new
Supersprint Downpipe for the Toyota Supra MK5 (A90) and BMW Z4 (G29) is one of the most highly-regarded exhaust components for the B58 engine platform. Because Supersprint is an Italian manufacturer known for hand-built quality, finding one in “like new” condition is a significant find for a performance build.
Since the Supra A90 and the BMW Z4 M40i share the same chassis architecture and engine, this part is a direct cross-platform fit.
Technical Specifications & Performance
-
Material: High-grade AISI 304 Stainless Steel. Unlike cheaper alternatives, Supersprint uses thicker piping to prevent the “tinny” rasp often associated with aftermarket downpipes.
-
Design: Features a smooth, CNC-machined turbo flange for a leak-free seal and an integrated bungs for the primary and secondary $O_2$ sensors.
-
Performance Gains: On a stock tune, you can expect an increase of approximately 15–20 hp and 20–25 lb-ft of torque due to the reduction in backpressure.
-
Sound Profile: Provides a much deeper, more aggressive exhaust note and significantly louder “pops and bangs” (exhaust overrun), especially in Sport mode.
Versions: Catted vs. Catless
If you are looking at a “like new” unit, it will fall into one of two categories:
| Feature | High-Flow Catted (HJS) | Straight-Pipe (Catless) |
| Emission Status | 200 CPSI Metallic Core | Track Use Only |
| CEL Risk | Minimal (usually no light) | Check Engine Light (CEL) guaranteed |
| Smell | None / Factory-like | Notable fuel/exhaust odor |
| Sound | Aggressive but refined | Very loud / Raw |
Installation & Compatibility Notes
-
V-Band Clamp: The connection to the turbocharger uses a heavy-duty V-band clamp. If the “like new” unit doesn’t include a fresh gasket, it is highly recommended to buy a new OEM Toyota/BMW crush gasket to prevent exhaust leaks.
-
Heat Shielding: Supersprint downpipes are often sold with or without a thermal “heat wrap” or ceramic coating. Since the B58 engine runs very hot, ensure your engine bay plastics are protected if the pipe is bare stainless.
-
Tuning: While the car will run on the factory ECU, a Stage 2 Tune (like MHD or Bootmod3) is required to fully utilize the increased flow and to code out the $O_2$ sensor errors if the pipe is catless.
-
OPF/GPF Models: If your Supra/Z4 is a European-spec model with an OPF (Oxygen Particulate Filter), you will need a specific version of the downpipe or an OPF-delete cable to prevent the car from entering limp mode.
