BMW M3 G81 G80 M4 G82 G83 Competition Bumper Grille
OEM & Performance Upgrade Guide | 2021–2026
The Competition variants of the G8x generation share the same core front-end geometry, defined by the vertical “Large Kidney” grille. While the G80 (Sedan) and G81 (Touring) are 4-door and the G82 (Coupe) and G83 (Convertible) are 2-door, their front bumpers and grilles are 100% interchangeable.
1. Genuine Competition Components
2. Grille Upgrades: Competition vs. CSL vs. Aftermarket
The most popular modification for the G8x Competition is swapping the standard horizontal-slat grille for a CSL-style or “Motorsport” unit. BMW M3 G81 G80 M4 G82 G83 Competition Bumper Grille
-
Standard Competition Grille: Features thicker horizontal slats in high-gloss black. Efficient, but conservative.
-
CSL / CS Style Grille: Features a more “open” design with fewer slats.
-
Pro: Significantly improved cooling for the S58 engine.
-
Con: More exposure for the radiators (many owners add mesh protection behind the grille).
-
-
Adro Front Bumper (Reimagined): A popular aftermarket choice that replaces the entire bumper and shrinks the height of the kidney grilles for a wider, more traditional BMW look. (Estimated cost: $3,100+).
3. Technical Intelligence: ACC & PDC
 Critical Installation Note:
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC): If your car has the radar sensor in the center-right of the lower grille, you must buy a grille version specifically labeled “With ACC.” Standard grilles will block the sensor and disable your driver-assist features.
Bumper Removal: You cannot change the grille from the outside. You must remove the entire front bumper (approx. 20-30 fasteners) to access the clips holding the grille in place.
Badge Transfer: Replacement grilles do not come with the “M3 Competition” or “M4 Competition” badge. You must heat and peel your original badge or purchase a new one separately.
