BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GTC 2007 SOFT TOP

For the 2007 Bentley Continental GTC, the soft top is a complex, 7-bow triple-layered assembly. Because 2007 was part of the early production run, these roofs are frequently seen in the secondary market for fabric replacement or hydraulic system overhauls.

1. Primary Component Part Numbers

The part numbers for the 2007 model usually carry the 3W7 prefix, denoting the first-generation convertible.

Component Part Number Notes
Complete Roof Assembly 3W7871011 Includes frame, fabric, and glass.
Outer Fabric Cover 3W7871035 Available in Black, Blue, Grey, Beige, etc.
Main Hydraulic Pump 3W7871791 Located behind the rear seat center.
Hydraulic Ram (Left) 3W7871795 Main lift cylinder.
Hydraulic Ram (Right) 3W7871796 Main lift cylinder.

2. Technical Features (2007 Generation)

  • Triple-Layer Construction: Features a heavy-duty outer canvas, a rubberized waterproof middle layer, and a wool-blend inner headliner for acoustic insulation.

  • Glass Rear Screen: Unlike many convertibles of this era, the GTC features a heated glass rear window that is permanently bonded to the fabric. If the heater filaments fail or the glass breaks, the entire outer skin usually needs replacement.

  • Operation: Controlled by a fully automated electro-hydraulic system. In 2007 models, the roof takes approximately 25 seconds to cycle and must be operated while the vehicle is stationary (or at very low speeds, under 20 mph, depending on software version).

3. Common Issues with the 2007 Soft Top

The 2007 GTC is now at an age where the following maintenance items are common:

  • Hydraulic Leaks: The seals in the rams or the lines can perish. If the roof moves slowly or “stutters,” check the hydraulic fluid level in the pump (uses Pentosin CHF 11S).

  • Fabric “Shrinkage”: Over time, the canvas can shrink slightly, putting pressure on the rear glass bond. This often leads to the glass “popping out” at the bottom corners.

  • Sensor Failures: The system uses multiple micro-switches to track the roof’s position. If one fails, the “Roof Movement Interrupted” warning will appear. Common culprits are the Tonneau Cover sensors.

  • Drain Clogs: If the drains near the rear “B-pillars” clog with debris, water will back up into the cabin, often frying the Roof Control Module located under the rear seat.

4. Replacement Tips

Warning: Replacing just the outer fabric is a high-skill job requiring specialized adhesives and tensioning. Most owners find it more cost-effective to buy a “New Old Stock” (NOS) or refurbished complete frame and fabric assembly if their current frame is bent or damaged.

  • Re-syncing: If you manually close the roof due to a failure, you will likely need a diagnostic tool (VAG-COM/VCDS or ODIS) to clear the fault codes before the power roof will function again.
