Part Numbers: 4W2941016A (Right) and 4W2941015A (Left) Series: 4W (Second Generation)

For the 2013–2019 Flying Spur, the 4W2 prefix identifies the high-performance Bi-Xenon or LED headlight assemblies. These units are significantly different from the earlier Continental family, featuring the more modern “jewel” design with integrated LED daytime running lights (DRL).

1. Technical Specifications

  • Type: Bi-Xenon (High-Intensity Discharge) for main/dipped beams with integrated LED signature lighting.

  • Technology: AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System). These headlights swivel in the direction of steering and adjust height automatically based on vehicle speed and load.

  • DRL Signature: A distinctive “halo” ring or outer jewel effect that serves as the daytime running light and turn signal.

  • Bulb Type: Typically uses D3S bulbs (mercury-free), which are powered by a high-voltage ballast mounted directly to the bottom of the headlight housing.

2. Part Number Identification

  • 4W2941015A: Left Hand (Driver Side for LHD / Passenger Side for RHD).

  • 4W2941016A: Right Hand (Passenger Side for LHD / Driver Side for RHD).

  • Variants: You may also see 4W1 prefixes. 4W2 usually denotes the specific beam pattern for Right-Hand Traffic (LHD cars) like those in the USA and Europe.

3. Common Issues & Maintenance

  • LED Failure: The LED daytime running light strips are known to dim or flicker over time. Since these are integrated, a failed DRL usually requires the replacement of the entire headlight assembly.

  • Moisture / Condensation: Bentley headlights have small vents to allow for pressure equalization. However, if you see standing water or heavy fogging, the rear seals or the lens bonding has likely failed.

  • Ballast Damage: Because the ballast (control module) is located at the very bottom of the unit, any moisture that enters the headlight pool at the bottom can short out the electronics.

4. Component Protection & Programming

Important: These are “smart” headlights. Each unit contains its own control module that communicates with the car’s Central Electrical Module.

  • Programming: If you replace a headlight with a new or used unit, you must perform a Basic Setting using a diagnostic tool (ODIS or VCDS). This aligns the motors and “teaches” the car the zero-position for the adaptive beams.

  • Module Swap: If your outer lens is broken but the electronics work, you can often swap your old ballast and modules to the new housing to avoid “Component Protection” issues.
