1. OEM Part Numbers & Identification

The 2005 model year (Engine Code: BEB) uses BorgWarner K16 turbochargers. Note that the left and right units are not interchangeable due to the manifold orientation.

2. Turbocharger “Kit” Options

When people search for a “kit” for the W12, they are usually looking for one of three things:

  • Complete Replacement Set: This includes two new or remanufactured turbochargers. Given the labor involved (the engine usually must be removed), most mechanics recommend replacing both at once.

  • Service/Installation Kit: This is a set of essential gaskets, “O” rings, and mounting hardware. You should never reuse the old gaskets; look for the Turbo Mounting Gasket Set (often part of the 07C gasket series).

  • CHRA / Core Repair Kit: If the outer housings are fine, you can purchase the internal Cartridge (CHRA). This is a cost-effective “kit” that replaces the spinning turbine and compressor wheels.


3. Common Issues & Service Notes

  • Engine-Out Labor: On the 2003–2011 Continental GT, the turbos are positioned behind the engine against the firewall. For a full replacement, the engine and transmission assembly usually needs to be dropped from the car.

  • Vacuum Line Failure: Before assuming the turbo is dead, check the braided vacuum lines on top of the engine. They often perish from heat, causing “Low Boost” codes that mimic a failed turbo.

  • Wastegate Actuators: The actuators on these K16 units can rust or stick. There are aftermarket “helper spring” kits or replacement actuators available if the turbocharger itself is still building pressure.
