  2. The “A” Clutch Drum: When the pressure regulator fails, the “A” drum (responsible for 1st–4th gears) often shears or cracks. This results in a loss of forward drive or severe “clunking” into gear.

  3. Torque Converter Lock-up: The seal inside the torque converter can wear, causing a “shudder” or “RPM hunting” while cruising at steady speeds between 40–60 mph.

  4. The “Lifetime Fluid” Myth: While BMW marketed the fluid as lifetime, ZF (the manufacturer) recommends changes every 50,000 to 75,000 miles to preserve the valve body and clutch packs.
