Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty, the right-side (passenger) exterior mirrors are highly specialized components. Because these trucks are designed for heavy towing, the mirrors contain significantly more technology than a standard F-150 mirror.

To identify the correct replacement or inventory part, you must categorize it by Generation and Feature Set.

1. Generation & Fitment

Generation Years Key Design Note
Gen 3 2008–2016 Large, squared-off dual-lens design. Many are retrofitted to 1999–2007 trucks.
Gen 4 2017–2022 Sharper, more aerodynamic shell. Introduced the “C-clamp” LED signal.
Gen 5 2023–2026 Features a more integrated “sculpted” arm and updated camera housings.

2. Primary Mirror Types

The Super Duty uses two distinct physical structures for the right side:

  • Manual Telescoping: You must physically pull the mirror out to extend it for wide trailers.

  • Power Telescoping (Power-Fold): Controlled via the door switch. These are the “high-spec” units found on Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trims.

3. Critical Technology & Features (Check for these)

When listing or buying a right-side mirror, you must verify these internal components, as the wiring harnesses are not interchangeable:

  • BLIS (Blind Spot Information System): A small amber icon on the glass. The mirror housing also contains the radar module for trailer blind-spot coverage.

  • 360-Degree Camera: Look for a small circular lens on the underside of the mirror arm.

  • LED Security Approach Lamps: High-intensity “puddle lights” that illuminate the ground.

  • Power Glass & Heated Defrost: Standard on most XLT and above.

  • External Temperature Sensor: On many 2017+ models, the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) sensor is located in the passenger side mirror. If this is missing or the wrong version, the truck’s A/C will not function correctly and a Check Engine Light will trigger.

4. Technical Inspection for Resale

Component What to Check
Gears / Motors Listen for “grinding” when folding. If the mirror “clicks” but doesn’t move, the internal plastic gears are stripped.
Glass Ensure the Auto-Dimming fluid hasn’t leaked (looks like a dark “oil slick” inside the glass).
Caps Mirror caps come in Textured Black, Chrome, or Paint-to-Match. These are usually removable/swappable.
Mounting Studs Ensure all 4 mounting studs are intact; they frequently snap if the mirror strikes an object.

Part Number Identification (Example)

  • 2017–2022 Series: Look for prefixes like HC3Z or LC3Z.

  • 2023+ Series: Look for prefixes starting with PC3Z.
