Part Numbers: 5A5F0D5 (Left / Driver) | 5A5F0D6 (Right / Passenger) Generation: LCI (Life Cycle Impulse / Facelift) | Years: 2023–Present

With the G07 LCI, BMW introduced a “Split Headlight” design language. These part numbers correspond to the Upper Lighting Units, which house the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and Turn Signals. Unlike the pre-facelift model, the actual “driving” beams (Low/High) are located in a separate, darkened module below these units in the bumper.

Technical Specifications

  • Compatibility: BMW X7 (G07) Facelift models only.

  • Technology: Full LED Matrix-capable technology.

  • Primary Functions:

    • Daytime Running Lights (DRL): High-intensity white LED “arrow” or “eyebrow” signature.

    • Directional Indicators: Integrated dynamic (pulsing) LED turn signals.

    • Side Marker Lights: Regulatory amber or white LED markers (region-dependent).

Key Design Features

  • Slimline Aesthetic: These upper units are significantly slimmer than previous BMW designs, intended to give the X7 a more “technological” and aggressive front-end stance.

  • Frosted Crystal Effect: The LCI units often feature a frosted or textured internal glass element that diffuses the LED light, creating a seamless glow rather than visible individual LED “dots.”

  • Welcome/Goodbye Animation: When the vehicle is unlocked, these units perform a choreographed light sequence, a hallmark of the G-chassis LCI luxury line.

Professional Installation & Technical Notes

  1. Split Architecture: Please note that these units (5A5F0D5/6) do not contain the primary road-illuminating projectors. If you are repairing front-end damage, you must also ensure the lower main beam modules and the central control unit are intact.

  2. Coding (Programming): These units are part of a complex “Master-Slave” lighting architecture. After installation, they must be assigned and initialized via BMW ISTA. The vehicle’s BDC (Body Domain Controller) must “handshake” with the new modules to synchronize the DRL brightness and signal timing.

  3. Module Transfer: Typically, the LED Driver Modules are bolted to the rear of the housing. If moving modules from an old unit to a new one, ensure the rubber seals are perfectly seated to prevent moisture ingress, which is the #1 cause of LCI LED failure.

  4. Alignment: While the upper units determine the “look” of the car, they must be physically aligned with the hood and fender gaps. The mounting brackets have minor eccentricity for fine-tuning the body lines.
