 Audi R8 V10 4S automatic transmission, code SLD, rear-wheel drive, year 2020

Transmission Code: SLD (Successor to LDU / UJW)

Part Number: 0BZ300046B (0BZ 300 046 B)

Generation: Gen 2 Facelift (Type 4S)

Application: 5.2 FSI V10 RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive)

Year of Manufacture: 2020

The SLD is a specialized 7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission (0BZ family) developed exclusively for the rear-wheel-drive variants of the Audi R8 Facelift. Unlike the Quattro models, the RWD transmission is designed without the front-output takeoff and is paired with a specific mechanical locking differential tuned for pure rear-drive dynamics. This transmission manages the 2020 RWD engine output of 540 PS (397 kW) and 540 Nm.

Technical Specifications

  • Gearbox Family: DL800-R (RWD-specific variant).

  • Gear Ratios (SLD/RWD):

    • 1st: $3.133$

    • 2nd: $2.588$

    • 3rd: $1.880$

    • 4th: $1.140$

    • 5th: $0.898$

    • 6th: $0.884$

    • 7th: $0.653$

    • Final Drive: $3.59$

  • Weight Reduction: Because it lacks the front propeller shaft and multi-plate clutch system, the RWD powertrain contributes to a total vehicle weight saving of approximately 65 kg compared to the Quattro model.

Key Performance Features

  • Mechanical Locking Differential: The SLD unit features a traditional mechanical LSD (Limited Slip Differential). This provides more predictable, old-school handling characteristics for controlled drifting and track performance compared to the electronically managed AWD diffs.

  • Modified Shift Logic: The TCU (Transmission Control Unit) in the SLD is programmed to handle the fact that 100% of the torque is directed to the rear tires. It features a specific “ESC Sport” mode integration that allows for more slip before the transmission or traction control intervenes.

  • Launch Control: Still features the 4,500 RPM launch program, specifically calibrated to manage rear-wheel traction and minimize “axle tramp” during standing starts.

Professional Installation & Technical Notes

  1. Chassis Specificity: Important: An SLD transmission cannot be retrofitted into a Quattro R8 without significant structural and electronic changes. It lacks the internal output drive and housing mounts for the front-drive propeller shaft.

  2. Component Protection (ODIS): Like all R8 4S transmissions, the SLD is locked to the original vehicle’s VIN. You must perform a “Component Protection” removal using Audi ODIS Online to marry the new gearbox to your car’s Immobilizer system.

  3. Fluid Requirements:

    • DSG/Hydraulic side: G 052 529 A2 (S-tronic Fluid).

    • Mechanical Gear side: G 052 145 S2 (75W90 Axle Oil).

  4. Adaptation: After clearing component protection, a “Basic Setting” of the dual-clutch and the shift actuators is required. This ensures the gear engagement is synchronized with the engine’s 2020-specific idle and torque maps.

  5. 2020 Facelift Electronics: The SLD is designed for the facelifted electronics architecture. While it may physically fit a 2018 RWS (Rear Wheel Series), the software versioning (SW) in the TCU is specific to the 2020+ “RWD” model designation.

Inventory Note: This is a rare part number as RWD R8s were produced in significantly lower volumes than Quattro models. The “SLD” code is the most up-to-date version for the 2020–2023 production years.
